Walk west on trail, around woods, farther west on dike, back through woods and along boardwalk on south side of ditch. There were quite a few shorebirds on the islands/mats of mud, many far out and hard to id. Also spotted were 2 hummingbirds and a Blue-gray Gnatcatcher. Plus at least 3 monarchs, 1-2 swallowtails, at least 22 painted turtles, and 1 leopard frog. 32 species (+8 other taxa) Canada Goose 22 Some flying, some of the water, 3 sitting close to the boardwalk. Wood Duck 8 Blue-winged Teal 10 Flock flying fast, landed, but quickly took off again. Maybe more. Mallard 6 Flock flying. Mourning Dove 3 Ruby-throated Hummingbird 2 Sandhill Crane 1 Flying and calling. Black-bellied Plover/golden-plover sp. 2 Juvenile or non-breeding plumage. Couldn't get a good look at defining field marks, as they were in constant motion, feeding. Killdeer 6 At least 6.
