Our first ever double-header birdwalk turned out to be a winner. Nine of us spent a pleasant time walking in the beautiful prairie restoration on Dorothy Carnes' East side. Despite concerns about the weather, it proved to be a pleasant day with a bit of a breeze. Highlights there included many singing Sedge Wrens, one of which allowed us to see him. (Photo above.) We also had American Goldfinches everywhere we looked as well as many other interesting species to view.

We saved some time for a car caravan to the boat landing at Vinnie HaHa Road. Fortunately, Karen Etter Hale knew how to find it as the route was complex. She led us well. We headed for the boat landing but were distracted by an egg shell along the path. We were unable to identify it but have included a photo of it above. Upon reaching the landing we immediately saw several species of shorebird crowding the beach. They were close enought to see without binoculars - practically under foot - though the range of the birds required scopes to see them all. We were very busy trying to check them all out, along with a number of waterfowl out on the lake and other birds flying over.

All in all this was a very successful birding trip. We will certainly be re-visiting Vinne HaHa Road in the future.

There are lists of all species seen at both sites below.

If you weren't able to join us for this walk, we hope to see you at an upcoming walk.
