(Photo of White-lined Sphinx Moth ...) September Bird Walk - Rose Lake at Dorothy Carnes Park

A small but enthusiastic group of birders took part in our last scheduled walk for 2013 at Dorothy Carnes Park. With a bit of an unexpected wind but overall beautiful, if slightly chilly, weather it was a near perfect day for birdwatching. We hoped to find waterfowl, migrating warblers, resident birds starting to prepare for the upcoming winter and maybe a few surprises. We did well in all those categories. One of the most enjoyable viewings wasn't even a bird but rather a moth. See the comprehensive field report for the walk from Karen Etter Hale, below, for details.

If you couldn't be with us for this walk, we hope you will be able to join us for a field trip during our 2014 season.
