(Photo of Great Blue Heron ...) September Bird Walk - Ledge Road

Our September walk will be at Ledge Road at Horicon Marsh. This road has become a favorite birding location not just for me but for many others who visit the Marsh. It provides a variety of habitats and an easy walk (though there is a bit of a hill). We'll meet at 9:00 for a walk of about three hours this Saturday, the 20th.

I can guarantee you views of two active Bald Eagle nests. Whether we'll see the eagles is maybe 50/50. The families often stay nearby after the young are fledged so it is possible. We should find autumn migrants, resident birds and waterfowl. Scopes can be handy. We will have at least one to share.

Finding the starting point for the walk can be complicated. Make your way to Horicon or Mayville. Head north out of Horicon on Hwy 28 to Mayville (or start at Mayville). Turn north on TW on Mayville's west side. In Kekoskee head north on Y to Z. Take Z west and north to Point Road (it curves), then Point Road West. Follow it to the north to the intersection with Ledge Road. (If you're looking at the map, Point Road changes its name to Point Road West where it turns to the north.) We will park along Point Road West then walk along Ledge Road.

As always, please wear walking shoes and bring binoculars if you have them. Remember, you never know what might turn up on a walk, and what you might miss seeing if you're not there!
