June Bird Walk - Dorothy Carnes Park, South

(Photo of American Goldfinch ...)
It was not quite birding in an oven but it was hot! There was a heat advisory in place but that didn't stop five birders from enjoying our June walk. A strong wind and sticking to shade as much as possible helped. This was our first J/D walk using the south side trails at Dorothy Carnes Park. It won't be our last. We enjoyed the trails and the two viewing areas for Rose Lake. Due to the growth of cover at the west side viewing area, the two southern areas provide better views of the lake. Also, being less used, the waterfowl in the area is less disturbed by humans and so may be more easily seen. We identified 28 species, a pretty good number for the park at this time of year.
