(Walkers in the prairie...) July Bird Walk - Korth Park Prairie

Despite erroneous instructions on the website eleven walkers gathered on a warm but beautiful day in the Korth Park prairie. As anticipated, we had many creatures to observe besides the birds. We seemed to be surrounded by Halloween Pennant dragonflies as well as representatives of several other species. There were butterflies such as Tiger Swallowtails to wow us with their colors. And there were many birds. Dickcissels and Common Yellowthroat Warblers seemed to be singing from all sides. Combined with the many flowering prairie plants, this was an especially beautiful walk. Karen Etter Hale and Royan Webb provide us with a comprehensive field report for the walk, below.

If you couldn't be with us for this walk, we hope you will be able to join us for an upcoming field trip.
