July Walk

(Photo of Widow Skimmer ...) July Bird Walk - Korth Park

During a walk shortened by the heat and humidity, we had a wonderful look at the prairie itself and many of its inhabitants. Bird activity was not great, but we were able to see a number of the prairie birds one would expect. This included good looks at a singing Sedge Wren, a "skulker" more often heard than seen (and we did hear a number of them!). We also were able to observe several dragonflies (including the female Widow Skimmer used to illustrate this page - you can see a larger photo of her at http://outdoors.webshots.com/photo/2096243110051067273yXvFXu.html ).

It's always a joy to revisit this restored prairie. There's more work to be done here - in fact, we all pitched in and uprooted some invasive plants along the way - but it's a beautiful restoration especially in its main area. We will certainly consider it again when we plan next season's walks.

If you couldn't be with us for this walk, we hope you can join us for one of the others in this series.
