Strong rains the day previous did not dampen the spirits on our walk through the prairie area of Korth Park. The day was sunny and warm with no rain in sight. Besides a good number of birds, we took close looks at wildflowers, dragonflies and butterflies. As always at this site, there is a wide variety of nature to observe.

Comments: 70; mostly clear; N 10mph. Humid. Jefferson-Dodge Birding Walk. Walk loop from Elm Point Rd. parking lot up to upper shelter and back near lake. 3 13-lined ground squirrels, 1 E. chipmunk. Several species of butterflies (monarchs, black and tiger swallowtails and others), soldier beetles, dragonflies (widow skimmers, common green darners, black saddlebags, band-winged meadowhawk).

American White Pelican 149 Flocks of 43, 70, 16, and 20 circling and flying, some south, some west.
Great Egret 6, 2 flying north over lake, 3 more flying north over CTH S, 1 more flying north.

Red-tailed Hawk 1 Immature flying over, a Barn Swallow on its tail.
Belted Kingfisher 2 Two flying over, noisily, one going after the other one, as if in some tiff.
