August Walk

(Photo of American Goldfinch ...) August Bird Walk - Horicon Marsh

As planned we met at the end of Dike Road and explored it looking for shorebirds among others. We were treated to a view of five Black Necked Stilts, including a fly-by of the little group. This was probably one of the family groups that have bred there this year. There were both mature and immature birds in the small flock.

We found very few shorebirds, but we did find a couple. It took some work with scopes and patience but in the end it paid off. There's a complete list of birds seen below, as usual.

We took a little time at the end of the session to run up to Highway 49 in hopes of seeing the Little Blue Heron who's been hanging around there at times. We were unable to locate that bird but did see some others which made the try worthwhile. All in all, a good outing despite the reluctance of shorebirds to be seen.
