August Walk

(Photo of Bees on Clover ...) August Bird Walk - Korth Park

The weather was perfect and the turnout good for our "somewhat different" August walk. Several birders and nature lovers enjoyed a very informative walk through the restored prairie at Korth Park near Lake Mills. We examined a host of prairie plants, and had them identified by Nolan Kolath and others who joined us. Brad Webb was in charge of the birds but everyone took part in locating and identifying those in and around the prairie. Because of the location and time of year, the list is fairly small but we turned up some interesting ones! Royan Webb handled the butterly identification, again with good input from those who joined the walk. We've listed the birds and butterflies below, following the format from our other walks.

The pairie is in beautiful condition at this point, with planting complete. Different sections are in different stages of development, based on how long ago the planting was completed. This is a great place to learn about prairie flowers and to see many different species thriving. If you couldn't join us there today, we hope you have a chance to see the prairie and the park and will be able to join us for an upcoming walk in our series.
