(Photo of Yellow-headed Blackbird ...) April Bird Walk -Zeloski Marsh

The day was overcast but the birds were abundant as we held our first walk of the year. Zeloski Marsh proved a great place to begin the season. We feel the recent late snowstorms may have held many birds further south than otherwise might have happened.

Last year in April we spotted a pair of Osprey checking out the nesting platform. Today there was a pair there with a well started nest. We also got to watch as one of the birds flew close by and circled while carrying a fish. S/he did not seem inclined to share it with the mate. If we are to see chicks, there will need to be a bit more cooperation.

It's the time of year for pairs of birds. Two adult Bald Eagles sat on a snag watching us just as much as we watched them.

A complete list of birds sighted is below.

If you couldn't be with us for this walk, we hope you will be able to join us for an upcoming field trip. Who knows what you'll miss if you don't?
